Research Topic and Significance

The focus of this PhD position is on PFAS, a group of synthetic chemicals widely used in industrial and consumer products for their water- and stain-resistant properties.

PFAS are often referred to as “forever chemicals” due to their extreme persistence in the environment and resistance to natural degradation processes.

Their widespread use and environmental mobility have led to global concerns about contamination of soil, water, and food chains, with serious implications for human and ecosystem health.

The PFASTOP project aims to address these challenges by investigating the environmental fate of PFAS in soil–water–plant systems, assessing their bioaccumulation, and developing innovative, sustainable remediation strategies.

By advancing understanding of PFAS behavior and providing practical solutions for their management, this research will contribute significantly to environmental protection and public health.
