The Team

The Frontend Platform team champions frontend excellence at Upstart by empowering teams to engineer quality user experiences.

We build tools and services that are used internally by the engineering, design and product teams.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Frontend Platform Engineer to help shape the future of our engineering platform and empower product teams to deliver exceptional user experiences with speed, quality, and consistency.

In this role, you will own and evolve the core frontend platform, frameworks, and developer tooling that power our web and mobile applications.

You’ll collaborate closely with product engineers, infrastructure teams, and design systems partners to drive technical strategy, set standards, and solve cross-cutting challenges at scale.

How you’ll make an impact

• Platform Development: Design, build, and maintain the core frontend platform and tooling used across product engineering teams.
  
  
• Developer Experience: Lead efforts to improve build pipelines, CI/CD workflows, testing frameworks, and local dev environments.
  
  
• Framework & Architecture: Guide adoption of technologies (e.g., React, TypeScript, React Native) and define architectural patterns that ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.
  
  
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with design systems, backend, and infra teams to align frontend initiatives with company-wide engineering strategy.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• 6-8 years of professional frontend engineering experience, with deep expertise in React and TypeScript; experience with mobile (React Native) is a plus.
  
  
• Strong knowledge of web performance, testing strategies and modern frontend architectures.
  
  Solid understanding of observability and monitoring for frontend systems (eg: Sentry, Datadog)
• Hands-on experience with modern build systems (eg: Turbo, Webpack, Vite), skilled in CI/CD tooling (eg: GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and automation of release pipelines.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• You have experience building frameworks, libraries, or tooling that scaled across multiple teams or applications.
  
  
• Ability to partner effectively with engineers, designers, and PMs; excellent communication skills.
  
  
• Knowledge of microfrontend architecture and familiarity with different content rendering strategies.
  
  

Position location

This role is available in the following locations: Remote-United States

Time zone requirements

The team operates on the East/West coast time zones.

Travel requirements

As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely.

The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites.

The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

Salary range: United States | Remote - Anticipated Base Salary Range $163,600—$226,400 USD
