This role will strengthen hemispheric partnerships, foster inclusive community engagement, and provide direct support to volunteers and partners through regionally-focused training, materials, and events.
Part of the Audubon science team, the Senior Coordinator will be based in Colombia and will report to the Audubon Director of Community Science.
However, due to the location and need for close coordination, the team member will also work closely with the Latin America and Caribbean team and will maintain working hours that allow effective collaboration with teams across the Americas.Compensation:$107,500,000 - $121,000,000 COP**Additional Job Description****Essential Functions*** Coordinate the promotion, implementation, and expansion of the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) program, the Great Backyard Bird Count, Climate Watch, and any other current or future community science programs throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.* Coordinate with the Latin America and the Caribbean team to ensure that the development and implementation of a targeted plan to advance community science in priority Latin American and Caribbean regions aligns with strategy for the region.* Collaborate with colleagues across Latin America and the Caribbean, including through joint planning and multi-unit initiatives, to execute shared organizational priorities and bridge hemispheric community science initiatives and communities.* Establish, maintain, and cultivate sustainable partnerships with local or regional organizations, groups, or communities to promote community science programs and expand volunteer networks across Latin America and the Caribbean, including, where appropriate, with Indigenous and local communities, with a focus on ensuring long-term program success.* Help foster partnerships with scientists and staff in academic institutions, NGOs, and governmental agencies.* Recruit, support, and collect input from volunteers and program leaders (e.g. compilers, regional editors, coordinators) within community science programs across Latin America and the Caribbean, including user support via email, phone, or other customer services systems.
Assist in compilation of program data where needed.* Work with the Community Science team to develop, update, adapt, and deliver a comprehensive training curriculum for current and new CBC volunteers in Latin America such as manuals, how-to resources, tutorial videos, in-person workshops, virtual webinars, and FAQs, with an emphasis on facilitating development opportunities that foster community science leaders.* Support the translation of scientific information, products, technology platforms, training materials, and other print and online content into languages relevant to Latin American and Caribbean communities (i.e. Spanish), including any necessary cultural adaptation of those materials.* Work closely with the Community Science, Communications, and Latin America & Caribbean teams to coordinate implementation strategies, media and marketing, webinar or in-person events for community science programs across Latin America and the Caribbean, including region-specific activities, with the goal of advancing Audubon's audience diversification and community building objectives.* Work closely with the Manager, Community Science, to compile and review program data and summarize annual results for the CBC and other community science programs in Latin America.* Assist with writing content for reports, publications, and presentations, and share findings and program outcomes with diverse audiences through presentations, conferences, or meetings.* Support a culture of philanthropy, contributing to public and private funding applications as necessary.* Support content creation and review for Audubon’s multi-lingual bird guide, app, and marketing products.* Maintain and foster a culture of safety and a commitment to Audubon's equitable conservation principles, including serving on the Science team EDIB committee as appropriate.* Travel expected 1-5 times per year.* Other job-related duties as assigned.**Qualifications and Experience:*** Bachelor's degree in environmental science, ecology, social science, community science, education, or related field.
Master’s degree or additional graduate worked highly valued.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.* Three to five years of relevant experience in community science program coordination, cross-cultural partnership development, and science volunteer training and support.* Knowledge of the birds of Latin America and the Caribbean and experience in the birding community.* Experience and familiarity with community science (aka citizen science or participatory science) methodologies, including experience with data management systems or specific platforms used for community science programs.* Experience working with organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean on conservation, community science, ecotourism, or other related areas.* Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that can be adapted to reach a wide range of individuals and used to build consensus.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize and communicate technical and complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences while maintaining sensitivity to diverse culture contexts.* Fluency in Spanish and English required, proficient in other regional languages is also valued.* Comfortable in a fast-paced and shifting environment, able to manage multiple priorities and tasks, and work independently to re-prioritize when needed.* Interest in working to promote bird conservation across the Americas, and a passion for the mission of the National Audubon Society.* Commitment to Audubon's organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation.* Demonstrated experience with successful volunteer program management, including training and user support, program evaluation and assessment, and volunteer and partner outreach and recruitment.* Skilled in customer support or community organizing that maintains inclusive, equitable, and collaborative programs and work environments.* Understanding of regional conservation priorities, including community-based approaches, across different Latin American and Caribbean countries.* Track-record of writing and/or public speaking about birds, birding, community science, or bird conservation in multilingual settings preferred.**National Audubon Society Competencies:** *This role will also
