About The Role

Stanford University’s Stanford Cancer Institute is seeking a highly skilled Computational Biologist / Bioinformatician / Research Data Analyst 1 to join the Kalbasi Laboratory.

This position plays a crucial role in managing and analyzing high-throughput next‑generation sequencing data derived from laboratory experiments, clinical trials involving cancer patients, and publicly available datasets.

The successful candidate will contribute to innovative projects focused on understanding the interface between cancer and the immune system, with particular emphasis on T cell therapies and cytokine therapies for solid tumors such as sarcoma and melanoma.

The role involves applying advanced computational techniques, integrating diverse datasets, and participating in emerging protein design strategies utilizing artificial intelligence tools.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to translational cancer research, leveraging computational expertise to inform and accelerate therapeutic development and personalized medicine.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field, along with at least two years of relevant experience.

A strong background in bioinformatics and biostatistics, particularly in analyzing next-generation sequencing data, is essential.

Experience with machine learning and AI tools, as well as an interest or background in protein design, will be highly valued.

Proficiency in working within UNIX/Linux environments and programming languages such as Python, R, Matlab, or Perl is required.

Additional preferred qualifications include knowledge of tumor purity and clonal heterogeneity analysis, familiarity with cancer biology and immunology, and experience with predictive modeling and statistical methods such as Monte Carlo simulations.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, manage, and clean large datasets from laboratory experiments, clinical trials, and public repositories to ensure data integrity and readiness for analysis.

  • Utilize existing and develop new computational tools to interpret, analyze, and visualize complex multivariate data, including genomic, proteomic, and clinical datasets.

  • Create and maintain databases, develop algorithms, and build statistical models to extract meaningful insights from high‑dimensional data.

  • Perform detailed data quality assessments, identify and rectify data inconsistencies, and troubleshoot issues related to input errors or inadequate data collection practices.

  • Generate comprehensive reports, visualizations, charts, and tables to support research findings, publications, and presentations.

  • Collaborate with faculty and research staff to refine data collection methodologies and optimize analytical workflows.

  • Document analytical procedures, data processing steps, and results to ensure reproducibility and compliance with research standards.

  • Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, grant organizations, and industry partners, to communicate research progress and findings effectively.

  • Participate in the development of innovative protein design strategies employing AI and machine learning techniques.
