The Company works in the Alzheimer's space.

We are building AI models that seek to uncover clues on early detection and to predict the course of the disease based on patient signatures.

We are seeking individuals who can help clean and standardize medication-related data across clinical datasets.

The Medical Data Harmonization Intern will be responsible for reviewing and harmonizing medication names and codes across sources, enabling consistency and downstream compatibility with analytical and AI models.

The intern will work closely with Data Engineers to ensure that medication names are standardized (e.g., Tylenol, Dolex, and acetaminophen become a unified entry), relevant classification codes are assigned (such as ATC, RxNorm, or NDC), and that multiple databases using different schemas are reconciled under a unified structure.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and clean medication entries from patient records to identify and standardize drug names.

  • Map multiple synonyms or trade names to a single generic name or active ingredient.

  • Assign each medication a standardized code (e.g., WHO ATC code, RxNorm, or other commonly used identifiers).

  • Consolidate and unify medication coding systems across clinical databases.

  • Document decisions and build reproducible mapping dictionaries.

  • Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to ensure harmonized data is usable for modeling and analytics.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with pharmacological nomenclature, including active ingredients, brand names, and therapeutic categories.

  • Ability to interpret and unify medication data using standardized vocabularies such as:
  • ATC (Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System)
  • RxNorm
  • NDC (National Drug Code)
  • Proficiency in working with structured data in tools like Excel or CSVs.
  • Basic programming and data handling in Python is a plus, especially using pandas for data cleaning and manipulation.

  • Ability to read and interpret medical or pharmaceutical terminology accurately.

  • Proficiency in English is required.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicine, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.

    Students from STEM disciplines with relevant experience in pharmacology or medical terminology will also be considered.
