Responsibilities
Data Infrastructure & Standards
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of scalable data systems that support diverse biological datasets and downstream applications.
- Help implement best practices and protocols for data storage, processing, and management.
- Support the design of system architecture that ensures data integrity, usability, and scalability.
- Assist in monitoring and optimizing infrastructure performance for evolving project needs.
- Support the design and maintenance of ETL pipelines for processing and harmonizing internal and external biological datasets.
- Contribute to building infrastructure that supports analytical workflows, knowledge graphs, or AI-driven tools.
- Work closely with data scientists, engineers, and bioinformaticians to align infrastructure with research and analytical objectives.
- Learn and adopt best practices in data management, infrastructure design, and software development.
- Participate in team discussions, sharing ideas and collaborating to improve workflows.
Skills
Education
- BS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- Internship or 1–2 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, bioinformatics, or software development (biotech/pharma experience is a plus).
- Exposure to ETL pipeline development or data integration projects.
- Familiarity with agile development practices is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Programming experience with Python (preferred), SQL/no-SQL; familiarity with R or other scripting languages is a plus.
- Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure).
- Interest in working with biological data sources such as OpenTargets, STRING DB, and Human Protein Atlas.
Soft Skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Good organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience or interest in knowledge graphs or advanced data structures.
