This position plays a key role in advancing the Zoo’s marketing strategy by designing and producing compelling, visually impactful, and informative graphics, signage, video, and photo assets.
Through creative and strategic visual storytelling, this position helps drive revenue, strengthen brand recognition, and further the Zoo’s mission to inspire people to care for animals, create connections, build community, and save wildlife.
Full-Time employees receive our comprehensive compensation package which includes 100% employer paid Medical/Dental/Vision, Employee Assistance Program, 401k, 10 Paid Holidays, Paid Sick and Paid Vacation time on an accrued basis.
The pay range for this position $25.00 - $29.99 per hour.
Offers will be based on the successful candidate's experience.
Design and produce visually engaging graphics, signage, and digital assets that align with the Zoo’s brand standards.
Capture and edit high-quality photo and video content to support marketing, communications, and social media campaigns.
Work with the Communications Coordinator to develop new and interesting ways to develop the Zoo’s visual storytelling compacity through media kits, FCZ blog, and FCZ podcast.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop creative concepts and translate them into impactful visual materials.
Occasionally assist the Senior Designer in developing a look and feel for special projects.
Maintain and organize the Zoo’s photo, video, and graphics libraries for easy access and reuse.
Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining design, photography, and video equipment.
Ensure all visual materials meet technical specifications and quality standards for both print and digital platforms.
Contribute to brainstorming sessions and campaign planning, offering creative ideas that enhance the Zoo’s storytelling.
Stay current on design trends, tools, and technologies to keep the Zoo’s visual communications fresh and engaging.
Foster and maintain a positive, supportive, and respectful team culture through collaborative communication, mutual respect, and proactive teamwork.
Safely operate a vehicle for business purposes including but not limited to going to and from the Zoo’s facilities and offsite.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational goals.
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field preferred.
Minimum of six months to two years of graphic design work using the Adobe Creative Suite is required.
Minimum of six months of photo/video work experience required.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and timelines in a busy, creative setting.
Bilingual preferred (Spanish or Hmong communication skills a plus.)
A valid California driver's license, valid vehicle insurance and enrolled in the CA Employer Pull Notice program required.
Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
Color perception is also required.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone) at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Expressing or exchanging ideas through the spoken word.
The employee must convey detailed or important spoken information to others in individual and small group settings.
Hand and finger dexterity sufficient for typing and other graphic needs or administrative tasks.
Must be able to sit and work at a desk for eight or more hours of screen time as part of daily responsibilities.
Must be able to individually carry, lift, push, pull or up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to team carry, lift, push, pull or up to 80 lbs.
This position regularly works with Fresno Chaffee Zoo leadership, animal care staff, Zoo employees and other relevant stakeholders.
This position functions both indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, Zoo environments and external events
The employee may be exposed to environmental substances such as dust/dirt from Zoo grounds.
The position works in close proximity to Zoo animals.
Regular local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
