Responsibilities
Job Purpose: The Database Administrator is responsible for implementing enhancements to all aspects of the current & future NoSQL/OpenSource DB architecture, ensuring high performance and availability.
Primary Duties include:
- Serve as a subject matter expert for NoSQL/OpenSource databases (primarily Mongo Atlas, PostgreSQL, CosmosDB, and others), sharing knowledge and training team members.
- Collaborate with development teams to identify and migrate NoSQL/OpenSource databases not managed by the DB team.
- Participate in on-call rotations for support.
- Monitor, trend, and tune NoSQL/OpenSource databases to meet SLAs.
- Create and automate health checks, monitoring, and reporting for NoSQL/OpenSource databases.
- Develop and enforce best practices within the DBA team and collaborate with development teams.
- Assist in designing and implementing high-performance databases.
- Address performance issues through scaling, configuration, or query optimization.
- Identify code defects, analyze root causes, and recommend improvements.
- Manage NoSQL/OpenSource DBs for production and non-production workloads, on-premise and in the cloud.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and identify risks.
- Report control weaknesses and unusual activities.
- Maintain ongoing training and development.
- Provide fair and clear communication to clients, ensuring high service quality and reporting complaints.
Qualifications
- Experience managing Open Source/NoSQL databases such as CosmosDB and MariaDB.
- Experience with MSSQL/Oracle or willingness to learn.
- Experience working in Agile/SCRUM environments.
- NoSQL/OpenSource DB Certification.
- Coding skills (PowerShell, C#, Python) for automation and API interaction.
- Experience with automation/orchestration tools like Jenkins, Ansible, GIT, TeamCity, Azure DevOps, Terraform.
