POSITION OVERVIEW
The Database Administrator's role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability.
This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy & Planning
- Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
- Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Conduct research and provide advice regarding the selection, application and implementation of database management tools.
Operational Management
- Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones.
- Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity.
- Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
- Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
- Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.
- Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.
- Create, or support creation of, required reports in response to business user needs.
- Perform database transaction and security audits.
- Identify, report, and manage database security issues, audit trails, and forensics.
- Implement security measures and frameworks, while ensuring compliance.
- Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
- Develop routines for end users to facilitate best practices database use.

Operates infrastructure services in a Managed Services mode for Corporate, Packaging, Publication Papers, and Energy.
Offers a selection of services to Tissue and ensures interoperability with their outsourced and managed services.
Corporate and DR data centers, 1000+ virtual servers, 20+ virtual hosts.
Complex 10Gbps and 40Gbps data networks, Fiber Channel networks, Wireless networks.
Wide Area Network with 60+ connected sites with both private line MPLS and Internet VPN links; some locations with High Availability routing and Cellular LTE failover technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- College (CEGEP) degree in Information Technology or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Certifications or degrees are preferred.
- 5 years of work experience in a DBA administrator role
Technical requirements
- SQL Server: Expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, performance tuning, and high availability setups.
- Oracle JDE: Knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards database administration, including performance tuning, system upgrades, and integrations.
- SAP: Knowledge managing SAP, with a focus on database optimization, system replication, and SAP module integration.
- Performance Optimization: Advanced skills in database tuning and query optimization, including indexing, partitioning, and system resource management.
- Backup & Recovery: Experience in implementing and managing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions across SQL, Oracle JDE, and SAP platforms.
- Security & Compliance: Familiarity with database security best practices, including encryption, access control, and compliance management.
- Cloud Experience: Knowledge of cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud) and experience with cloud migrations for enterprise ERP systems.
- Scripting & Automation: Knowledge in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate routine database administration tasks.
- Data Migration: Experience with cross-platform data migrations, upgrades, and consolidation, including ERP systems (JDE, SAP).
