Job Title: Data Protection Engineer
Location: Bogota, Colombia (candidates must be based in Bogota)

About the Role
We are seeking a Data Protection Engineer to lead strategic efforts in preventing data exfiltration, governing cloud security, and optimizing CASB solutions.
This role is pivotal in ensuring sensitive data remains secure across both cloud and on-prem environments, while aligning with industry regulations and internal security policies.
The ideal candidate will have hands‑on expertise in Data Loss Prevention (DLP), CASB solutions, and cloud security, and will take a proactive approach to identifying, mitigating, and preventing data loss risks.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for data protection, loss prevention, and exfiltration controls.
- Establish and enforce policies for data classification, encryption, and access control.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate data exfiltration risks across endpoints, cloud, and SaaS platforms.
- Oversee Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies and workflows to prevent unauthorized data movement.
- Lead the design and optimization of CASB solutions (e.g., Proofpoint, Microsoft Defender, Varonis).
- Monitor shadow IT usage, unauthorized SaaS applications, and cloud storage risks.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and other regulations.
- Collaborate with Security Operations, IT, and DevOps teams to strengthen data protection controls.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for data security best practices and emerging threats.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data protection, cloud security, and exfiltration prevention (3–5 years considered if experience is strong).
- Strong expertise in Data Loss Prevention (DLP), CASB solutions (Proofpoint preferred, Microsoft Defender, Varonis), and data security frameworks.
- Deep understanding of data exfiltration tactics, insider threat detection, and cloud security controls.
- Experience with SIEM, UEBA, and Threat Intelligence platforms for monitoring data-related security threats.
- Familiarity with encryption standards, tokenization, and data masking techniques.
- Ability to assess and improve cloud security configurations in AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCSP, CIPP, CEH (or equivalent).
- Hands‑on experience with machine learning‑based anomaly detection for data protection.
- Experience with Zero Trust architecture and identity‑based data security.
