Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Architect to lead the design and governance of our enterprise data platforms.
The ideal candidate is an expert in data modelling (star, snowflake, data vault), open data formats, and scalable architectures using cloud-native tools.
You will collaborate across business and technology teams to ensure robust, compliant, and high-performing data ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Analyze highly complex business requirements; generate technical specifications to design or redesign complex software components and applications.
- Build, architect, design, and implement highly distributed global-based systems.
- Experience in network infrastructure, security, data, or application development.
- Modernizing legacy systems or similar transformational initiatives.
- Author architectural patterns to help assessment teams improve and develop their processes.
- Socialize with larger audiences using reporting, real-time dashboards, and hosting education sessions.
- Act as an expert technical resource for modeling, simulation, and analysis efforts.
- Leverage industry best practices to design, test, implement and support a solution.
- Assure quality security and compliance requirements are met for the supported area.

- The role requires interaction with business and technology leadership; effective communications commensurate with the audience and the ability to promote an idea and gain consensus is critical.
- Responsible for the implementation of a trusted governance model where architecture assessments are automated based on enterprise standards and policies.
- Help drive the implementation of trusted policies and standards with internal teams such as Security, Infrastructure, Data, etc.
- Deployment of a technology solution that will implement the trusted governance framework, policies and workflows.
- Challenge the solution architect's way of thinking by implementing architectural design principles to improve the bank's security, resiliency and technology footprint.
- Continuously research current and emerging technologies and propose changes where needed.
- Inform stakeholders about issues with current technical solutions being implemented.
- Create designs and reference architectures for the enterprise.
- Incorporate the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture into day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Operate in alignment with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, while ensuring day-to-day business controls meet operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk requirements.

Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture
- Hands-on experience defining and implementing data mesh principles across multiple domains
- Proven expertise in dimensional modeling (Star and Snowflake schema)
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Data Vault 2.0 modeling
- Experience designing enterprise data architecture using modern Lakehouse, Datalake and Warehouse patterns
- Proficient in designing logical, physical, and canonical data models aligned with business domains
- Experience working with metadata management and catalogs
- Strong knowledge of master data management (MDM), data lineage and data governance best practices
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations and secure data architecture design
Technical Proficiency
- Python expert
- Open Format Table expert (Delta Lake or Iceberg or Hudi)
- Azure / GCP cloud professional data architect certification
- GCP Dataplex expert
- Databricks Unity Catalog expert
- Spark or Flink expert
Must Have Skills
- React (Front-end) – 5+ years of hands-on experience
- Node.js (Backend for front-end layer) – 5+ years of hands-on experience

Working Conditions
