Overview
The DAM Lead / Librarian is a role with 5 - 8 years of experience.
We are searching for a person who will provide strategic oversight and leadership for all digital asset management operations, serving as the primary authority for asset governance, taxonomy design, and DAM ecosystem optimization.
This role acts as the central point of escalation for complex asset management issues, bridging technical systems and cross-functional teams while ensuring seamless integration between creative production, client services, and technical infrastructure.
They will develop and enforce asset management standards, lead DAM training initiatives, and drive continuous improvement of asset workflows across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement long-term digital asset management strategies aligned with organizational goals and client requirements.
- Design, maintain, and enforce standardized taxonomies, metadata schemas, and naming conventions across all asset libraries.
- Lead configuration, customization, and performance tuning of DAM platforms to maximize efficiency and user adoption.
- Supervise Senior Asset Managers, assign workloads, provide mentorship, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Establish and monitor quality control protocols for asset ingestion, tagging, and distribution.
- Partner with IT, Creative, Legal, and Client Services teams to resolve complex asset-related challenges.
- Develop systems to track and report asset usage rights, permissions, and licensing compliance.
- Create and deliver DAM training programs for internal teams and clients.
- Evaluate and manage relationships with DAM vendors, software providers, and technical partners.
- Generate usage reports, performance metrics, and ROI analyses for leadership review.
- Architect end-to-end digital asset workflows from creation to archival.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in digital asset management leadership within a creative agency, production studio, or corporate environment.
- Expertise in enterprise DAM systems.
- Proven experience managing teams of asset specialists or librarians.
- Deep knowledge of digital asset formats, color management, and production workflows (print/digital).
- Advanced understanding of metadata schemas (IPTC, XMP, EXIF) and taxonomy frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement DAM policies and standards.
- Strong project management skills with experience in agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to present strategies to executive stakeholders.
- Legal literacy regarding copyright, usage rights, and intellectual property management.
