Job description

EDC's Global Business Development Group –LATAM region is looking for a goal-oriented with a proven track record business development professional who will lead the team's business development efforts in the Andean, Central America and Caribbean region

The successful candidate will have significant international affairs and business development experience working in international markets, complemented by a sound knowledge of international banking, financing and insurance practices.

The position requires an in-depth knowledge of international markets, business practices and culture in emerging markets.

The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to Bogota, Colombia ( exact dates to be determined) for an international assignment as a Chief Representative for a minimum of three years.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to EDC's mandate and possess exceptional relationship management, influencing, and business development skills.

They will act as a trusted partner, supporting Canadian companies in-market and serving as a key link to the Canadian government presence in Colombia, including Global Affairs Canada, provincial representatives, and other partners.

As EDC's Chief Representative, they will provide strategic insight into the evolving business landscape in the Andean, Central American and Caribbean region, align with Canadian government policies, and deliver timely advice and reporting to EDC.

They will also lead the development of strategies to support Canadian exporters and investors in these markets.

To be a successful Chief Representative for EDC one must:

  • Have a passion for EDC's mandate;
  • Possess strong relationship building skills and the capability of connecting to the market and key decision makers both private and public sector
  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a broader virtual team;
  • The capacity to work a variety of hours due to networking events, social engagements, business meetings and travel in varying time zones;
  • The ability to generate new financing and insurance business including call planning, prospecting and selling to originate transactions;
  • Pro-actively manage accounts of key buyers, borrowers and market intermediaries, and contributing to the systematic management of EDC's Canadian accounts active or interested in the market;
  • The ability to originate deals, screen potential clients and facilitate transactions;
  • Lead the planning and development of an overall operational plan for the region as well as sector-specific business development plans;
  • Provide corporate representation at public events across the region as well as during outreach activities in Canada;
  • Provide market intelligence;
  • Possess strong leadership skills in order to lead, coach and mentor team staff

Skills & Knowledge

  • Solid knowledge of international capital markets, banking environment and global business environment;
  • A thorough understanding of financial requirements throughout the life cycle of capital projects and related financing techniques;
  • Solid knowledge of the Canadian export and investment opportunities in the region;
  • A proven track record of developing strategic relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver on new business opportunities;
  • Solid influencing, negotiating, relationship management and highly effective presentation skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with relevant EDC teams and exhibit appropriate leadership and teamwork skills;
  • Ability to identify key account targets and develop and implement account strategies to meet objectives( B2B and financing targets, among others)
  • Ability to work autonomously with strong initiative;
  • Must be results-oriented
  • Screening Criteria

  • University degree in business, international affairs or a related field , or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of international affairs experience, with a strong background in business development.

  • Experience in financial services industry, either in origination, selling or underwriting
  • Knowledge of the LATAM region; previous experience and or familiarity with the Andean, Central American and Caribbean markets
  • Willingness to relocate for a foreign assignment in due course for at least three (3) years
  • Bilingual in English and French

Assets

  • Experience with a broad range of EDC products and a good understanding of EDC's mandate and business principles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish

Other Criteria

  • Top Secret Security Clearance (all applicants must have Top Secret Clearance or be willing to commence the screening process)

Salary Range
Manager Business Development 20: Salaries typically range from 127,380-$169,838 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
